SEMINAR OVERVIEW

This full-day session will provide participants with the most current information on legislative and regulatory changes, especially those concerning Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), excess contributions and death benefits. Attendees will be prepared for a new round of member questions and operational changes in the coming IRA season. Intermediate IRA knowledge is assumed.

Topics include:

  • Legislative and regulatory update
  • Death Benefit Claim Changes
  • Post-70 1/2 RMD Changes
  • Excess Contribution Changes


TOPICS & OBJECTIVES

Contributions

  • Identify the different types of contributions that can be made to traditional and Roth IRAs
  • Explore rollover contributions, the automatic waiver of the 60-day rule, and traditional IRA to Roth IRA conversions
  • Understand how and when these contributions are reported to the IRA owner and the IRS

Distributions

  • Understand the tax consequences of distributions from traditional and Roth IRAs
  • Define an excess contribution as well as a recharacterization
  • Know how to report distributions to the IRA owner and the IRS

Required Minimum Distributions

  • Learn when to use the Uniform Lifetime Table and the Joint Life Expectancy Table
  • Understand the tax reporting requirements for required minimum distributions

Processing a Death Claim

  • Examine the steps involved in the death claim process.

Chad Neumann, IRA Training Consultant, is responsible for conducting IRA training programs, at the national level, to meet the needs of credit unions and leagues. Chad is the Project Manager for IRA Supertrain®. In addition, Chad is also a part of numerous project teams that propose form revisions and IRAdirect® changes.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Have (or will have) primary IRA responsibility
  • Have significant IRA experience and/or training
  • Desire an in-depth discussion of more complex IRA issues
  • Are a Certified IRA Specialist. You will receive one credit toward recertification.

Cancellations received in writing (via fax 608-231-4327) before the end of business on October 28, 2008 are eligible for a refund of the amount paid minus a $50 administrative fee. No refunds will be granted for cancellation requests received after October 28, 2008. Substitutions are accepted anytime prior to the start of the program at no additional cost.
